



Regional Judges: Neil Brown
Neil Brown ![]() Neil Brown joined the St. Petersburg Times in 1993 as world editor overseeing national and international affairs. In 1995 he became managing editor. He was named to the board of Times Publishing Co. in 1997 and became a vice president in 2001. In 2004 he was named Executive Editor. Prior to joining the Times, Brown served four years as managing editor of Congressional Quarterly. CQ, an affiliate of Times Publishing, produces, among several publications, a weekly magazine devoted to national politics. Before joining CQ, He spent eight years as a reporter and editor at the Miami Herald covering government and politics in Miami and at bureaus in Key West, Tallahassee and West Palm Beach. Brown is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Iowa. He holds bachelor degrees in political science and journalism. He has served as a Pulitzer Prize journalism juror. He is a past president and board member of the Florida Society of Newspaper Editors. He has been a visiting faculty member of the Poynter Institute, a school for journalists. He is past chairman and current member of the University of Iowa, School of Journalism Advisory Board. Neil is married to Gelareh Asayesh, an Iranian journalist and author. They have a son and a daughter and the entire family has traveled extensively through Iran. |
